Hand-Embellished Editions

A Hand-Embellished Edition is one of our numbered edition prints on cotton canvas that Vira Konstanta has finished by hand. The algorithmic mosaic is Charis Tsevis’s. The surface is Vira’s.

It stays inside its edition. A print numbered 12/150 is still 12 of 150, and finishing it adds no copy to the edition. What changes is the object: gold that catches the light, paint that rises from the canvas, resin that gives the colour depth. Each finished print is different from every other print in its edition.

How a print becomes a Hand-Embellished Edition

  1. The print. An edition print from the African Bricks series, printed in 12 colours on cotton canvas, signed and numbered.
  2. The finish. Vira works on the surface by hand, with the materials she chooses for that image:
    • 24K gold leaf (Giusto Manetti), applied by hand and light-pressed
    • relief paint that builds dimension on selected fragments
    • metallic acrylics and watercolour accents
    • clear resin where depth is needed
    • a handwritten dedication, if you ask for one
  3. The record. Each finished print is photographed, and its certificate of authenticity names the finish and the edition number.

How this differs from Singularis

A Hand-Embellished Edition begins as a print that exists in an edition. A Singularis work is conceived as unrepeatable from the first moment and exists only as one physical object, made by Charis and Vira together. If you are looking for a unique work, see Singularis.

Questions

Is a Hand-Embellished Edition a unique work?
No. It is a numbered edition print finished by hand, and its finish is different from the other prints in the edition. A unique work is one of our Singularis pieces.
Does it use up one of the numbers in the edition?
No. It carries the number of the print it began as. The edition size does not change.
Who does the finishing?
Vira Konstanta, who also finishes our Singularis works. The mosaic itself is by Charis Tsevis.
Can I ask for a dedication or a particular finish?
Yes. Handwritten dedications and gold leaf are available now. For anything beyond the standard finish, write to studio@tsevis.com before ordering and we will say what is possible for that image.
How long does it take, and can I return it?
We confirm the timing by email before we start. Like all our prints, a Hand-Embellished Edition is made to your order and cannot be returned, unless it arrives damaged or defective and you tell us within 30 days. See our terms.
Where do I order?
On the print’s page, choose “Custom Finish on Canvas” under Material. For several prints or a larger piece, write to studio@tsevis.com.
