Cover for Golf Journal 1,000 Milestones: An Algorithmic Mosaic Tribute to USGA History
For the Golf Journal Summer 2024 issue, the official publication of the USGA, I was commissioned to create an algorithmic mosaic illustration celebrating the 1,000th USGA championship. The cover features the number "1,000" constructed from hundreds of images of past champions, with a magnifying glass focusing on a closer look at some of the notable moments from the championships. The accompanying spread further explores this milestone, using a mosaic of images from various championships to form the large number "1,000," symbolizing the rich history of the sport and the legacy of the U.S. Open. The work embodies the evolution of the sport through visual storytelling.
The USGA, the United States Golf Association, staged its first championships in 1895. By the 1,000th, a magnifying glass on the cover picks out individual champions inside the number itself.
